Gerhard is the professional name of a Canadian artist known for the elaborately detailed background illustrations in the comics series Cerebus the Aardvark. Gerhard joined the book in the August 1954 and transformed Cerebus by adding a fully realized world behind the award-winning cartoonist Dave Sim’s story and figures. Gerhard remained Sim’s collaborator on Cerebus until the book was completed with it’s milestone 300th issue.
