Is there something special about your local comic shop? Do they deserve recognition for the wonderful in-store experience they provide? Do they go above and beyond, with a bright, well laid out, positive shopping experience? Perhaps some of the community outreach they did in 2008 deserves special attention.
Well, you can help them achieve that recognition: the Joe Shuster Awards are accepting public nominations for THE HARRY KREMER RETAILER AWARD. The Kremer Award recognizes the most outstanding comic book retailer of the previous calendar year.
Here’s how it works:
A member of the community nominates the store they believe is deserving of the award. Members of the Retailer Committee then go to work: they will research the store and it’s community profile, have a representative enter the store and shop as a customer to get a feel for the store and the experience, contact deserving shops for more information about the store, it’s employees, and then the finalists undergo a telephone interview.
Winners are recognized at the annual Joe Shuster Award event, alongside the other important contributors to comics, graphic novels and the comic community because retailers play an important role in the comic world.

Past winners include:

Harry Kremer Award / Prix Harry Kremer – Retailer / Détaillant
Shops are recommended by the general public and a separate Retailer Award Committee reviews all materials received and select a store that has shown merit in a variety of categories (see details elsewhere on this site). Named after the late Harry Kremer, original owner of Now & Then Books (in Kitchener, Ontario)
