2011 Canadian Comics Wrap Survey: Jonathan Mahood

Jonathan Mahood is the creator of Bleeker the Rechargeable Dog, a daily syndicated newspaper comic for King Features Syndicate. He lives a couple hours north of Toronto in Parry Sound, Ontario

What was your involvement in comics in 2011?
After being a web daily comic since 2006, Bleeker was picked up and launched internationally by King Features on January 3rd 2011. It now appears in Canada, the USA, Germany and Switzerland.

What was the highlight of the year for you re:

(a)    comics publishing in general?

I’m excited about volume one of the Complete Pogo Collection by Fantagraphics. 

b)   comics by Canadian creators?

I really enjoyed Seth’s The Great Northern Brotherhood of Canadian Cartoonists

Was 2011 a good year for you?

Getting syndicated has been a long term goal so it was a great year for me professionally 

Was 2011 a good year for comics?

I would say so. I attended TCAF again this year and it keeps getting better. 

What do you have coming up in 2012?

Hopefully a book of the 2011 strips and possibly a Bleeker iPod app or game.

Any final comments on 2011?

It kind of evaporated…hopefully 2012 has an easier pace to it!
