“Comics are impacting the 21st Century”

Last Saturday, the University of Regina played host to the first Queen City Comics Astonishing Conference and Festival at the College Avenue campus.

The Regina Leader-Post discusses the conference and interviews visual artist and educator Gerri Ann Siwek, among others.

The festival brought together academics, comic collectors, sellers and enthusiasts for workshops, talks by artists — including renowned European graphic novelists Francois Ayroles from France and Vink from Belgium, an exhibition of works with local and international artists, as well as comic and costume contests.

The conference was co-chaired by Gail Chin, a professor in the visual arts department, and Sylvain Rheault, a professor in the department of French, — both of whom teach different aspects of comics in the classroom.
